Boston Marathon suspect is awake and responding to questions

The Boston Channel

WASHINGTON —Law enforcement sources tell ABC News Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the second suspect in the Boston Marathon Bombing, is awake and responding sporadically in writing to questions.

The source told ABC's Pierre Thomas investigators were questioning the 19-year-old Tsarnaev about other cell members and other unexploded bombs, but said no details were given yet on answers.

Video on the Way

This comes as surveillance video from the Boston Marathon attack shows one suspect dropping his backpack and calmly walking away from it before the bomb inside exploded, Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick said Sunday.

The video clearly puts Tsarnaev at the scene of the attack, Patrick said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

"It does seem to be pretty clear that this suspect took the backpack off, put it down, did not react when the first explosion went off and then moved away from the backpack in time for the second explosion," Patrick said. "It's pretty clear about his involvement and pretty chilling, frankly."

Bomber Tried To Kill Himself With Shot To The Head

The alleged Boston Marathon bomber is awake and responding to questions in his hospital bed.  Dzhokhar Tsarnaev is responding sporadically in writing to questions from investigators regarding other cell members and other unexploded bombs, law enforcement sources told ABC News.

The 19-year-old shoved his pistol in his own mouth and pulled the trigger as SWAT officers and federal agents closed in on the boat where he was hiding on Friday night.  However, instead of killing him, the bullet simply tore through his neck.
