WHO IS KEEPING TRACK OF THE TRILLIONS?

Alan Grayson questions the Inspector General of the Federal Reserve - 05/09/10

Circulate Far and Wide.

Our only hope to stop the heist will come from greater awareness.

WHO IS KEEPING TRACK OF THE TRILLIONS?

If you're in a hurry, start watching at the 3-minute mark.  At issue is the accounting and oversight for $9 trillion in secret Fed bailouts of Wall Street banks, for which taxpayers are ultimately responsible to the tune of $32,000 for every man, woman and child in this country.  Fed audit, anyone?

FIrst of all I have never seen such a bunch of sore losers in my life. Everyone is quick to blame our president who has been on the job all of what 5 months or so.... We can thank a few people along the way for creating this mess. I saw someone threw Billy Clinton's name in the hat and then someone took it all the way back to Jimmy 'Peanut" Carter. It's safe to assume these sore losers are only pointing out the guys from the other party. IF anyone was paying attention during the election I think we can recall John McCain and that hillbilly from Alaska talking about: More de-Regulation and more tax breaks for the rich as the solution??? No folks we need to back up to Ron "hollywood" Regan for the real problem here. He was the man to start deregulation. All our money troubles started when we allowed all the "Smart" investment bankers to manage themselves and all of our trillions. They pushed to get a little something called Special Purpose Vehicle set up and move all this bad debt they were knowingly racking up with their insurance buddies offshore to shell companies and not have to show those books to the dumb stockholders as it was too complicated for them to understand. And we surely can't leave out Dick Chaney and the Ignorant Cowboy Bush from Texas. They undertook the largest outsourcing in history of our Military, prison system and most other support functions in Govt. They made all their friends Rich beyond belief Just look at the balance sheets of Haliburton, Blackwater etc and the thousands of shell companies they operate under. They do all this to hide how much money is actually being spent with these companies. Do a little research people. Stop being Sheep. It shocks me daily how many people just listen to the crap spewing out from the right and take it as fact. I loved last week at the Gym when a Fox Newscaster (which obviously reports the fiction the right dreams up) was commenting on our new Supreme Court Justice and said something to the extent of " The right doesn't have any dirt on her yet but you can be sure they are looking and going to come at her with all barrels blazing regardless" Its really sad when someone who has republican values such as I finds them self voting for Democrats as they are closer on most issues to my values than the republicans. Scary times people. We need to be more united as a Nation and not let Rouge politicians and special interest groups keep feeding us this crap to divide us. Look like it or Not the guy in charge is there for at least 4 years. Its a disservice to our country to continue to Sabotage our current leader and his staff with lies and propaganda. I live in CA and today saw a group protesting in Palo Alto on the street about Obama's Healthcare and likening him to Hitler. With a photo of Hitler on this big sign. WOW i mean really.... It's shows the lows we have reached in our country to associate our leader with a murdering war criminal.

I hope you have a chance to look around this site. Our beef is with anyone, regardless of party affiliation, who supports the ongoing taxpayer funded bailouts of the banks and their bondholders, of AIG and its counterparties (i.e. the same bailed out banks), and of the auto makers and the UAW. I don't know what gave you the idea that this was a "Republican" website, but the criticism of Obama you'll find here stems mainly from his ongoing, wholehearted support of taxpayer funded bailouts for some very rich and undeserving people. Many of us even voted for Obama. But if you want to get all schmaltzy about "our current leader" or whatever, then the banksters and their pals have already won. Obama will be their man and they'll get everything they want. The fact is that Obama is getting very bad advice on the issue of the bailouts. Geithner, Bernanke, Summers -- in his own special way, each of these men are partly responsible for this mess in the first place. Why Obama voted for the TARP, is beyond my ken. But whether you like Obama or not, the bailouts are wrong, we can't afford them, and they ought to be stopped. I think most of us can agree on that.

Hi yea I have looked around and did get off on a rant. I totally agree with the subject at hand and your comments. We have over spent our limit on the good ol USA credit card and need to stop spending money. We should be ashamed as a nation we have not punished both the criminals on wall street and in DC. They should have assets seized and go to jail. If I ran my company the way they ran theirs I would get a nice tax payer Federal Vacation somewhere for a long time. Sorry i got off subject i just get fed up with someone bringing up a important subject like this and the more i read the more i started seeing it moving off to a lets blame the left for everything even though they recently came in to power. We need to look back and clearly put the large part of the blame where it belongs. Sure we need to be cricitcal of current govt and the bad moves they are making.

@James

My thanks to everyone for posting your thoughts. James is correct. We are NOT a Republican or Democrat site. We exist to educate and occasionally entertain as well as create an official record of the bailouts.

If you are a politician or government official who supports the generational giveaway to bank bondholders, then we will do our best to seek and destroy you. We have no patience for our bailout culture and the minions who are keeping it alive.

Here are James' comments again:

@Mnstr

I agree with you 100%. When I post comments to almost all other sites, I post as "clawback" -- which in an ideal world would be part of the process you describe above. Nicely put. I've yet to see a regular commenter around here, or any serious commenter for that matter, argue for letting any Republicans off the hook. Paulson, Bush, Bernanke, Bair, McCain, Graham -- they're all Republicans and they're all to blame. Meanwhile, Alan Grayson and Brad Sherman, to name just two Democrats, have been damn near heroic in their opposition to the bailouts and in their crusade against fraud. I'd say we're pretty much on the same page with the bailouts.

I AM a moron...but that doesn't mean I can't understand the impossible situation created when the ship is sinking and the Captain can not be found - and none of his crew is capable, or willing, to take the helm. We, as a country, are that sinking ship. It is no longer about who SHOULD be doing what - if they are not doing it, not capable of doing it, nor willing, then it is time for those (who have paid way to much to ride this boat ) to be willing to take it over and do what must be done to save all involved before it goes completely under. I am not for anarchy - but, I am for removing those who would rather cause the demise of all, than risk their own position to do what is necessary for the good of all. No excuse is good enough for the condition we find ourselves in at this moment in time. Admissions of wrong-doing and incompetency would be nice, perhaps even helpful. Surely, we are not ALL morons who believe that accountability and leadership go hand-in-hand. We have, as a nation, had the best - as well as the worst - of examples set before us in our long history. Good leadership should be able to discern what is best for the collective whole based upon such examples. Experience is often the best teacher. Instead, those who have the experience, those who have been around for many years, are often put off and ignored - deemed as old, out of touch, and old-fashioned. Wisdom is too often exchanged for new ideas borne, not from knowledge and understanding, but rather an insatiable lust for power, position and wealth. It will require more than just ONE person of reason and a sound mind - surely, there MUST be more than one - willing to scream louder than the insanity of which we now find ourselves a part.

1. This is all about class warfare and Rule By Secrecy !
2. The Fed and central banking in general are the main tools of the wealthy, private banker class club sitting on top of the world.
3. The excessive printing of money is the huge, hidden tax, reported to the people as if its resultant inflation were an act of nature.
4. The Fed is the biggest scam of all time. Corporate, wealthy socialism, not the altruistic version.
5. Ayn Rand and her Objectivist philosophical followers (Greenspan) are truly deranged self servers of the club, without moral conscience.
6. Jefferson and Jackson fought heroically to stop this scam, but the Hollywood mafia strictly denigrades them, out-of-their time, with the slave and indian issue smear tactics. Guess what club this H'wd mafia belongs to.
7. This wealthy cabal is truly miffed that they let the internet go public, as they have overwelming dominance over all other media.
8. War is good for their businesses and investors as they require this imperialism because the Arabs live atop the oil. Israel was mostly fabricated as a foothold into this region of oil.

No big surprise here....just another example of the "inmates running the asylum" and my only question is how much longer are the "sheople" in this nation going to continue putting up with this abberrant behavior. I continue to believe that we should treat our "leaders" (and I use the term loosely) as we would misbehaving children by "cutting off their allowances" (refuse to pay income tax) and "putting then in time out" (ie prison....and not those "honor camp" retreats)....it's the only way we're going to get their attention. We're dealing with a bunch of chronic, arrogant, entitled sociopaths and for every one we vote out of office (providing our votes are actually counted...thank you Diebold) there are 10 more "crooks in training" waiting in the "wings". I've been guesting on talk radio shows for the past 11 years and I always tell my audiences the "The world we live in is not the world that we think we live in"....some lessons are harder to learn than others and self-empowerment (nationally) is turning out to be a "major doozy". We'll continue to be stuck in this mess until we assume control of this "Frankenstein Bureaucracy" we've created. The lyrics to Elton John's "Burn Down the Mission" should become our national anthem as well as a reminder to politicians of what happens when they forget who they represent and the ramifications that may ensue.

Galensbook,

Cutting off their allowance would certainly get their attention. We'd need critical mass, though (millions?). Whatever you think of the Tea Parties, I think they show that people are at least open to the idea of taking control of their own government and witholding some of the goodies. How could we make this happen? Any ideas?

I agree that it is not necessarily a Republican or Democrat problem, it’s a politician problem. These men and women who want to control our daily lives are not dumb. They know what they need to say to get elected. We have truly entered into the entitlement era with our main concerns being “what can you give me?” or “how little do I have to work for it?” As sheeple, we have pulled the lever for the ones who answer these questions favorably, without considering the consequences.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the public treasure. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most money from the public treasury.” - Alexander Tyler

“A government that robs Peter to pay Paul can always depend on the support of Paul.” – George Bernard Shaw

The masses are not being educated but are being “dumbed down” to a level that our politicians can maneuver us the direction they want, make us think we like it and that it is the right thing to do. These politicians like to get behind podiums and use words like fascist, communist, and socialist as they point fingers at the other political party, knowing the whole time that most American voters (especially the younger generation) can’t even register what they are saying. But they sound smart, so they should be our leaders. Truth is, that the little white stuff on the top of chicken shit, is just chicken shit too.

Educate yourself, work hard and don’t settle for mediocrity.

Disgusted- The President is American and was born in Hawaii? Then why is his original vault birth certificate off limits, as well as his college appilaction docs, his transcripts, his law review records? Why did a Kenyan official refer to his birthplace there becoming a shrine? His early education in Indonesia was at a Muslim school- harly surprisinfg as Indonesia is a majority Muslim country.

Don't bother with the racist nonsense, either. I was one of the many who admired Condi Rice and would have voted for her in a heartbeat, against any socialist of any color. Before he put color over conservatism, I regarded Colin Powell as a fine leader and a good Republican POTUS or VP candidate.

And THEY follow that misuse and failure to fix anything with more intentions to "spread more wealth around" to solve a now Congress generated greater chaotic situation than before. Barack H. Obama has paid over $900,000 to seal every record on himself, from his birth certificate to his college papers? Now why would anyone in America do this, eh? There's only one obvious answer to this secrecy..................does anyone get it? H e h a s s o m e t h i n g t o h i d e w h i c h
h e d o e s n ' t w a n t a n y o n e t o f i n d o u t ! Maybe because those particular documents have his real birthplace imprinted upon them, 'ya think? If he was born in Kenya as his grandmother claims (she said she was in atendance), that would disqualify him from being President of The United States. Why is our legal system still playing dumb after months and months of being asked these same questions? Get on with the investigation or tear up the Constitution and shut up! Article 1 section 8, US Constitution: Congress shall have the Power To coin Money, regulate the Value thereof, and of foreign Coin. Having read the entire Constitution and the 27 amendments, there is no place where Congress is granted the right or authority to delegate its authority with respect to the above to a private entity or ANY entity. How would you feel if they delegated their taxing authority to Haliburton? The Fed is an illegal, quasi-governmental entity that needs to be dismantled but that won't happen since those with money never relinquish control and the Fed is the way to control the money supply without subjecting it to the whim of the unwashed masses. When Greenspam talked about wage inflation, he was talking about keeping the average Joe from earning a better living. The 1999 hyper-inflation of the money supply was a deliberate effort to create a bubble and crash and force all those near retirement to keep working. The Fed did it again with recklessly loose credit and the housing bubble. No need to worry about wage inflation since the vast majority of baby boomers will now have to work until they are carried out in boxes. Solves the FICA issues.

There are leaders in several of the States who are more qualified to run the United States than Obama and his crooked cabinet. Obama has an agenda and that is to destroy the United States of America and make it the the United Muslim States.

Those of you who voted him in are responsible for the demise of this country and don't try and weasel out of your guilt.

The consensus is how do we protect or take back our money. Rememeber, they are spending money they don't have yet and can only get from taxes in the future. In order to stop all of this nonsense, there needs to be a serious tax revolt in this country. The tea bag parties were a start but the pressure needs to continue. It is the people who run the country and not these lame politicians..
The problem is we are now officially a welfare state. 60% of the population receives benefit from the government in excess of their tax liability. The course we are on is designed to make even more people dependant and disincentivize those who want to succeed and prosper. This will further empower the lunatics who are running the asylum.
THE MADNESS MUST STOP>>>>WE NEED TO THROW ALL OF THEM OUT....YOU HAVE A VOICE AND A VOTE....USE THEM!!
Jun 9, 2009 at 11:34 AM | Unregistered Commentergunnar
The problem is well defined, the solutions are unclear. All this ranting against the people of the past will do nothing to make a difference in the future. It does not matter who is at fault, what steps they took to create the problems or how they gained their power. What does matter is what we will do going forward to change the circumstance.

The bailouts were a bad idea at the start. The way they have been applied is even worse. We can hope that recent actions in the Supreme Court will slow some of the stupidity and force the government to at least obey current law. But we cannot afford to get trapped in the political arguments of the moment. We must create a vision of the future that will resonate with Americans and we must work toward that vision with all our energy.

My thoughts on some things we can continue to do now, for what they are worth:

1. Continue to flood the publicly accessible media with information about what is happening and what it means for the future. Emphasize the facts and keep them simple.
2. Continue to expose government failure, incompetence, greed, foolishness, corruption, etc. It does not matter who appointed these people, how they got their jobs, or why they still have them. It only matters that we expose them now and either force them to perform or move them out.
3. Promote and communicate broadly the real alternatives to the problems we face. If you want to eliminate the Federal Reserve, suggest a viable alternative. (Really, do you want the members of Congress to have direct responsibility for and control over monetary policy in the United States. Most Representatives don't know the first think about economics and they certainly don't understand the critical issues of international monetary policy.
