Of course, from what I've read, the concern isn't inserts, it's tungsten filings mixed in with the gold. Tungsten's density is almost identical to that of gold.

Plus nothing GE makes is worth a shit.

Gold is diamagnetic, while Tungsten is paramagnetic. It would seem to me that that would be a better way to identify the presence of Tungsten, but honestly, I think you need to run more that one kind of test.
