Gore Vidal: "Our Only Political Party Has Two Right Wings, One Called Republican, The Other Democrat"

Two minutes of truth.  A pox on both warring parties.

Video:  Gore Vidal narrates - The Decline and Fall of the American Empire

  • "Our only political party has two right wings, one called Republican, the other Democratic.  But Henry Adams figured all that out back in the 1890s.  'We have a single system,' he wrote, and 'in that system the only question is the price at which the proletariat is to be bought and sold, the bread and circuses."

How much are we stealing from future generations to fight the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and is that substantial economic cost worth what we stand to gain with victory.  It's an annual $700 billion bailout for the Defense Department.

We need to stop the wars, bring troops home, close bases overseas, cut defense budgets -- as a component of a multi-year deficit reduction effort.

Reaction from Will Martindale of Let Them Fail

We are under the control of a global banking dictatorship today, and have been for years. How else can one explain such wealth destruction and still no General commanding financial troops of destruction.
The difference is, today's dictators hide in the shadows, behind all manner of straw dogs and front men, patsy's and political pawns.

They've learned quite well that when there is no evil figurehead, glaring at the populace like Dick Fuld against a backdrop of Code Pink, that there is no one man or group to point the finger at, just mass confusion and frustration.

The intellectual elite and world bankers have been running the show for many years before it became apparent to most of us in 2008, and some of us still don't see it today.

Their egos betray them when their tongues slip, but otherwise, the economic dictatorship of the technetronic era is much more successful as an anonymous conspiracy theory, only recognized by quacks or extremists.

Long live the CON!

You could just as easily say our only political parties has two left wings and the result is the same: the U.S. is run by a single sociopathic banking cartel. Political discourse has devolved into semantic meaninglessness represented by a red puppet and a blue puppet. But oh how seriously the masses do take their sock puppets. Go Team!

"The intellectual elite and world bankers have been running the show for many years before it became apparent to most of us in 2008..."

True for me, Wil. Scales fell when TARP passed the House on the second whack.

"...and some of us still don't see it today."

Replace "some" with "the vast majority" and we're in total agreement.

Btw, DB, to what do you attribute the, uh, rather massive recent surge in your quantcast numbers? Jeepers.

"A dangerous family"
Gore Vidal talks about Cousin Al, the evils of corporate America and why he's supporting Ralph Nader.

Comment: Cousin Al ?

[snip]

You're related to Al Gore?

Actually, he's related to me.

How?

Well, he's a cousin, a blood cousin. And I have actually never met him, although members of the family have tried to arrange meetings and I've talked to his people. But as I repeatedly say, although I am probably resigned to Nader, in the long run Gore is thicker than Nader.

So far so good, Texas Dar.

"and they have nothing to fear."

Anh. Someone's due to raise a little hell soon. I'd lay 2-1 on that.

Well, if they have two wings on one side and none on the other, no wonder they just kinda flutter around in a circle.

In European politics, the right wing is considered nationalist. So actually the two parties are left wing globalist.
