The stupid elites will soon learn that absurd legal penalties like this have consequences. Here a the elite has equalized the legal penalties for protests and robberies.

China once equalized the penalties for robbery and murder. The government had to change the law when it discovered dead bodies strewn across every robbery scene. Robbers quite rationally killed off eyewitnesses becuase under the law, there was simply no reason, no extra penalty, for not doing so. Slaughter was not only free, it had the added benefit of destroying the evidence of the robbers' initial crimes.

The elites' belief that the law is their plaything is a hubris that will prove lethal.
