Pawlenty: "I'm going to tell Wall Street that if I’m elected, the era of bailouts and handouts for big banks is over"

Read Pawlenty's op-ed in USA Today:

WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) — Republican presidential candidate Tim Pawlenty hits the campaign trail this week with tough talk for both Wall Street and seniors, pledging an end to bailouts for big banks and changes for what he calls unsustainable entitlement programs.

“I’m going to New York City to tell Wall Street that if I’m elected, the era of bailouts and handouts for big banks is over,” wrote Pawlenty, a former governor of Minnesota. “I’m going to Florida to tell both young people and seniors that our entitlement programs are on an unsustainable path and have to be changed,” Pawlenty wrote. He also promised he’d speak “truthfully” about farm subsidies while in Iowa on Monday.

“We will grow our economy if we shrink our government.”

Don't be fooled, Pawlenty is no different. I could tell in the first debate how he spoke, spewing crap out of his mouth, swaying back and forth in the political wave, nothing more than a typically politician.

He's another religious nut job. Another politician from the Sick Far Right is last thing this country needs.

sean...so we have to make a choice...romney, paul or pawlenty...

you know that i support ron paul, but i don't believe he will win the gop nomination...the party hates him as you are aware...romney is a bastard who supported the bailouts and loves wall street...which leaves only pawlenty...and there is no way i'm voting for obama again...unless he is running against palin...then i would have to support him over caribou idiot barbie...

@human...they are all religious...dems and gop alike...let me know the next time you see an atheist candidate...

Pawlenty is a complete phony, acting as if he would not have backed the bailouts of the banks & Wall Street. If he really wanted to do something about the massive frauds that caused the Great Recession, he could be doing it at the state level, going after all of the mortgage fraud that the banks were part of and that are at the center of the collapse. He could also be calling for federal investigations and prosecutions of the frauds. But, he won't do that, because he wants their money. I believe him, however, when he talks about going after Social Security and Medicare, programs that had absolutely nothing to do with the economic catastrophe that we are now living in.

rj...then in your eyes there is no acceptable candidate...since no one has gone after mortgage and banking fraud...
May 23, 2011 at 5:41 PM | Registered CommenterDailyBail
also rj...we have known for decades that the unfunded liabilities of medicare would bankrupt this country...and it has absolutely nothing to do with the last 5 years of crisis...medicare is a time bomb, and if you weren't aware, then you weren't paying attention...
May 23, 2011 at 5:43 PM | Registered CommenterDailyBail
and lastly, i don't agree with paul ryan's medicare solution...the fix is much easier than his proposal...means test medicare, and allow the feds to negotiate drug prices...those 2 simple steps would go a long way toward solving the crisis...

I'm with you, RJ. Track record tells all, not much unlike a thoroughbred--and who listens to them?

It's sad that we've been reduced to this. Everyone would agree that we need, simply, to enforce the law. We don't need new laws, or new regulation. What good are those if unenforceable? Just start by enforcing laws that easily pre-date the U.S. itself.

Perhaps we could begin with fraud in the mortgage origination process. How many loan officers went through closing knowing full well the homeowner had no chance in hell of satisfying his loan agreement? Correct--millions. And yet no one is in jail? That's a very telling figure, staggering as it is. It speaks to a very deep rot in this country.

DB, There is a difference from some one being religious and then being a nut job who wants to shove their religious agenda down other peoples throats. Since no GOP candidate cannot win the nomination without bending over for Sick Far Right and their "religion" no GOP nominee is qualified. Time to stop seeing the 2 party system as they want us to. It is a One Party System. There is no way Abortion or Guns will be made illegal. After that it all comes down to economics.
There are many alternatives. I'm a Green myself.

As for your "Medicare time bomb" that is nothing more than hog wash. Medicare has been intentionally sabotaged, just like our schools. It is the "conservative" agenda to destroy Social programs that have worked for decades so they can privatize it. Just like schools. Just like the Armed Forces. Just like our Prisons. The money has been stolen, as you know. The money has been spent on enriching those who manufacture War and profit greatly from it.

Speaking of Private Prisons, who got bribed with over $300,000.00 from Corrections Corp. of America? None other than Tim lil banker's Bitch Pawlenty.
Just follow the money to see who supports this cretin.

It must be Timmy's tough stance on crime that netted that bundle. Well, except for child molesters. They can get a Timmy pardon and their slate wiped clean. So they can rape other children.

Since this is the second time I've commented (that I remember) and it is adversarial to your consideration of Timmy, I must add that I frequent your page and respect your efforts. I also have no doubt that you want the best for America.

After over 20 years of voting and being politically active I'm just tired of all the B.S. that my fellow Americans eat with such relish.
One person ain't going to solve our problems.

Keep up the reporting on these bastards. I cite you quite often.
Peace.

Usually when a politician says they are going to go after a specific industry, many contributions start rolling into the pockets of many politicians from that industry to make it go away.

Welcome to the dog and pony show...

thanks human...but i respectfully disagree on this point;..i'm not talking about SS just medicare...because i agree with you on SS...but Medicare has an unfunded liability of more than $30 Trillion...yes, that number is correct....there is no such thing as a medicare trust fund...just promises made by the gov't. that they can no longer afford....it's purely an issue of demographics...paying for medical care for all the baby boomers was never thought out ahead of time...the solution is to make the wealthy pay more for their medicare...sorry if that upsets people, but something must be done...solution #2 is to allow medicare to negotiate drug prices...david walker said the medicare part d was the single most irresponsible bill in the history of this country...drug companies can charge whatever they wish...no constraint...thank Democrat Billy Tauzin for that one, plus congress and bush...

And again, I agree on SS...

It has been that way for generations, anyone remember when the Clintons were going to take on big PHARMA? The lobbyists pushed to have the bill rejected, and it was.

Lobbyists= money. Squeaky wheels...

Hi DB. I believe that the enormous theft of Trillions of our Treasure over the decades by the Racketeers is part of the destabilization effort to defund, and break our backs. Simply put, if our wealth was not stolen and held by the few, we could afford to fully fund Medicare and other Social programs. Some shake downs are direct, others are slight of hand for victim, and if pulled of well will leave the victim chanting the name of their assailant(s).
I know that you very well know of many ways we all have been screwed over. You've documented it.

I well remember the night they kicked the shit out of the old people and passed the "Prescription Drug Benefit". The vote was always held for 15 min. (one exception in 1987 http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/15/opinion/15walker.html?ref=richardsfoster) It didn't pass so they "froze" the clock and Delay had it on for over 3 hours until 2 or 3 am. This was so the enforcers could go around and bribe/twist arms to collect enough votes. The issue was had been so contentious in the GOP that the Racketeers had to tell Rick Foster, the Actuary from Medicare to lie in his report to Congress the day before the vote. He cut the cost around 300 Billion. One GOP Congressman said that Delay had threatened to with hold party funds from his sons'; upcoming Congressional campaign to replace the seat he had held for years. This was all immediately reported the same day it was passed. Asked why he lied, the Actuary lied, he said his boss told him to. His boss, Thomas A. Scully Esq.(squirrel) now works as a Lobbyist for the "Health Care Industry".
My Mother lived with us at the time, disabled by a heart attack while driving, she had the mental acuity of a 3 year old. When the information packet came, I calculated that it was going to cost my Mother $1700.00 dollars(total 6 medications) in the coming year. She died that same year though. But just think of the Millions of Seniors and one can start estimating the take in that part of the racket in the last 7 years.

And where is Rick Foster today? Still sounding the alarm in the only way he can. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/08/15/opinion/15walker.html?ref=richardsfoster

I must correct an error in the previous. I've been politically active for over 30 years. I must be getting old......

Peace.
