RAW VIDEO: ConEd Power Station Explodes In NYC
NYC — A massive explosion rocked a Con Edison plant near East 14th Street and the FDR on Monday evening as Hurricane Sandy continued to batter New York City, leaving much of Manhattan without power.

When I first wrote this story I included the following bit of satire as a joke on the news about Germany asking for repatriation of their gold.
I wholly underestimated the sheer gullibility of many readers who assumed it was true and have spread this story all over the global web.
My question - Why in the hell would a transformer blowing up have anything to do with the NY Fed's gold supply. It was satire, people, nothing more, nothing less. Next time, utilize some critical thinking before you spread rumors.
And if you knew anything about Jon Hilsenrath, that should have been a dead giveaway that it was satire.

BREAKING NEWS FROM DC
WASHINGTON -- In a hastily convened press conference, Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke announced Monday night that the ConEd explosion in NYC had completely destroyed the underground vault holding all of Germany's gold reserves, thereby nullifying all recent German attempts at gold repatriation.
The WSJ's Jon Hilsenrath reports the gold reserves were not insured.

Hijack on an airplane is a real threat.
Fire in a theater is a real threat.
A power station transformer exploding in New York has NOTHING to do with gold.

For the record, I have received no emails complaining about the story and you are just the 2nd person to complain in a comment.
I was NOT trying to fool people. I wasn't trying to push bad information out there. I was just trying to write something humorous to go along with the story. There was no intent to deceive or mislead anyone. It never even occurred to me that someone would take something so outlandish and believe it to be true.
Last point, I said Bernanke had convened a press conference. Don't you think that if Bernanke held a press conference announcing the destruction of German gold reserves that it would be covered by thousands of media sources?
Your attempt at satire is tasteless and you have to understand why the Azti is upset especially if he is a New Yorker. I'm sure you know that there is evidence that 9/11 was also a cover up for the theft of gold bullion which Germany was asking for it back and of course their request was ignored. Now although that was newsworthy it did not make the news and there have been other events that would be deemed as newsworthy that has not made it to the news for one reason or another so you can't assume that Bernanke's quote would make the news over something like this. You're taking for granted that most people know who Jon Hilsenrath is and the reason that you have not received any complaints about the story is that most people don't know what you are talking about. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised that what you're saying is true. Just like you stated what is the link btw a Con Ed explosion and gold....what is the link btw the WTC building explosion and gold? It could be everything.....

The reason I'm not getting any complaints on the story is that 99.9% of the people who read it realized it was a joke.
